Srimoy Kar, the Orissa editor of the New Indian Express, emerged champion in the 5th Corporate Golf Tournament, which was hosted by Bhubaneswar Golf Club at the BGC Course in Bhubaneswar on December 12 and 13.
With this win, Srimoy proved that sincere effort might take time to pay dividend, but would never go unrewarded. A knowledgeable and technically sound golfer, Srimoy was often missing success after coming closer to it. Before winning the title in the main (0 to 18 handicap) category, he won the `Closest to the pin` prize yesterday to make his presence felt in the tournament.
Augustin Ekka took the best gross prize, while Devesh Sinha finished runner-up behind Srimoy. In the 19 to 24 handicap category, Kim Na Hyun and P K Jena emerged winner and runner-up respectively. The team title went to ESS, which was represented by Devesh Sinha, Sailendra Upadhyaya, Jayant Biswas and Somprabh Jha. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (Sambalpur), comprising A K Das, A K Padhi, S K Mohapatra and U K Biswas, finished runners-up behind ESS.
Earlier yesterday, Lakhi Swain won the ladies title, ahead of runner-up Gita Biswas. In the individual categories, Devesh Sinha and A K Das finished one-two in the main category, while Dalbir Singh took the best gross prize. B K Dash won the top honour in the 19 to 24 handicap category, while P K Jena finished runner-up.
Altogether 16 corporate housed took part in the two-day tournament, which was sponsored by POSCO-India, Tata Steel, Indian Oil Corporation and Field Toyota.
